The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US on five Europeans working on combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
