Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
