Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like typical biological terror, but within Together lies a deep examination about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story commences when the couple transition from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two fall into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and presents them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie grapple with the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for staying single. On the other hand, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the ending sow anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
